The D3X, Nikon's highest resolution digital SLR to date, is slated to reach retailers in December 2008 at an expected street price of US$7999.95 in the U.S.

  • RAW usage up massively, JPEG bites the dust.
There are tons of reasons for using RAW instead of JPG when you’re taking photographs. Your photos will be sharper, you will be able to unlock your camera’s full dynamic range, and you have a better flexibility over things like white balance. It seems as if people are cottoning on in a big way, too [...]

In a blog posting today, UK-based pro cycling photographer Seb Rogers has published photos of his copy, which he says "dropped on the doormat this morning," and it reveals a 24.5MP full-frame camera capable of 5 fps continuous shooting at full resolution (7 fps when set to capture 10MP DX Format photos), a standard ISO range of 100-1600 (plus an extended range of 50-6400) in a body that's effectively identical to the D3.

  • Long distance camera trigger uses walkie-talkies to send signal
A camera trigger device, developed by photographer Robert Benson, enables an unmanned Canon or Nikon camera to be fired from miles away using walkie-talkies to send the signal. The idea for the device germinated from a problem Benson experienced firing a remote camera at an air show earlier this year. He has turned the solution into a US$90 product that he builds and ships from his home base in San Diego.

  • New video recorded with Canon EOS 5D Mark II posted by Vincent Laforet
New York-based photographer and Canon Explorer of Light Vincent Laforet has posted a new video recorded with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II. The almost two minute presentation gathers clips from Laforet's seven outings with a preproduction camera in recent weeks, including when he used Canon's latest digital SLR to put together Reverie. The clips show well the shallow focus capabilities of a video camera with a 35mm-size sensor, as well as Laforet's inventiveness in using the 5D Mark II in this way. It's well worth a look.
